Georgetown-Penang to witness grand opening of the world’s highest aerial adventure

Opening in February 2018, the 1 million USD outdoor adventure platform will feature a Flying Fox Zip Line and a challenge course with six obstacles, including a Confident Path, A Great Bridge, Z-Wire, G-Rocky, High Bench and X-Point.

“The most challenging obstacle challenge is the zip line, which is the fifth obstacle,” said Chief Executive Officer and founder J Hong Low at a press conference in Penang, January 27. “The entire experience will take an hour, which will comprise briefings for the participants, the wearing of gears and the course challenge itself,” he said.

In conceptualizing the project, The Gravityz wanted something unique for the Komtar Tower. At a brainstorming session, the team chose a ropes course challenge to enhance the visitor experience over the more common viewing decks featured in other towers. The team inspected the Macau Tower “Skywalk”, 233 metres above ground, prior to starting their design.

Swiss-based Kanopeo GmbH is the exclusive hardware supplier to The Gravityz. Mr. J Hong Low met Vincent Hueber, at the Asian Attraction Expo in Singapore and became familiar with the product. He selected the Saferoller® continuous belay system because it is safe, cost effective and features easy installation and low maintenance.

AGC Outdoor Sports, a branch of The Gravityz, developed the concept design, including branding, obstacles and engineering. Vincent Hueber visited the site in June, 2017, to advise on design and anchoring points for the trail. Designing a new anchor point to address existing load restrictions, loading material to the work site and working at height during installation were a few of the construction challenges the team overcame. Over a 6 month period, the project was realized. Currently there is 1 trail with 6 elements.

An interesting feature of The Gravityz. is the double safety line: one for participants and one for instructors and rescue purposes. Anticipating 20,000 visits by year end, there are 24 Saferoller® units in use, 6 per group. Participants under 18 must be accompanied by a paying adult. The course will be open daily from 10am to 6pm, except during inclement weather.

Tickets will be sold at a retail price of between Malaysia Ringgit 79 and Malaysia Ringgit 399, with Penangites getting the special price of RM79, which includes a T-shirt and entry to The Top@Komtar.
